Good Bye my sweet Prince

On Saturday we were given the terrible news that tumors had spread into Deebo’s lungs. He was only breathing at 20% of his capacity and it was causing his heart to beat double time. This could have caused him to suffocate from lack of oxygen at any time. We had a special last day with him. We made him a filet for dinner, he got a peanut butter filled kong, and rotisserie chicken. We had a picnic with him on Sunday and he got to say bye to his Grandma and auntie. We got his paw print so I can get a tattoo to remember him by. We sang with him (one of his favorites) and then at 9PM the vet arrived to send him to the rainbow bridge. It was the absolute hardest decision that I have ever had to make, but I couldn’t let him get to an emergency situation and suffocate or take the chance that he would suffer. He took his last breath surrounded by me, his daddy and his frenchie sister.  I haven’t been able to stop crying and I keep looking for him. I’m thankful that I had 10 1/2 incredible years with him. He was the little love of my life and I will miss him forever. He was truely a special boy.

2 out of 3

Well, we got the report back. One of the tumors was benign. The smaller one was a stage 1 but since it was removed it shouldn’t give him anymore problems. The huge one, the reason we took him in, turned out to be stage 3. The vet wants us to keep him on Prednisone because the long term effects aren’t as important as the short term ones. At this point we are trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. He is still very alert, eating well, and not having trouble going to the bathroom.

We are going to measure him tomorrow for a support suit. Has anyone tried them?

Thanks for the support!!! I will post pictures tomorrow as well!

Introduction to Deebo

Deebo is a Leonberger/Chow Chow mix. I adopted him from the shelter when he was a fluffly little ball of fur. They thought he would be about 50-60 pounds full grown but grew to over 100! He was the ringbearer in my wedding. He is the little love of my life. Deebo turned 10 in Novemeber.  He had his front leg amputated in January because he had a large cancerous tumor. Last Thursday he had 3 tumors removed. I am waiting for the results of the biopsy.
